Fazenda Junqueira Reis - Pedro Sergio & Jose Flávio
There are meticulous, professional producers and then there’s Jose and Pedro, better known as the JR brothers of Fazenda Junqueira Reis.
Attention to detail, experience and ideal growing conditions in Carmo de Minas has seen Junqueira Reis consistently feature among the very top producers in the Brazil Cup of Excellence each year. We visited the farm a while back where Jose showed us a bagged microlot from that year’s harvest which he’d internally graded as a 92/100. He told us ‘mais ou menos’ (so so) as his coffee that won the Cup a few years earlier scored an astronomical 94!
Interestingly, the farm’s name was chosen because the wives of both brothers have the same last name Junqueira, while the brothers have Reis which makes the children of the two families have exactly the same surname Junqueira Reis.
Funnily enough the wild Jacu birds in the area have a penchant for only the highest scoring Yellow Catuai at the top of the farm so keeping them away during ripening is a top priority! We also share the same love for these beans and are delighted that they’ve left enough for us to share with you.
