ABOUT ME
There’s a river stone at Baroida that never moves.

No matter how hard the rains come or how fiercely the river swells, it remains fixed in place. Locals believe a spirit lives within it - the Baroida spirit - watching over the land and the people who farm it.  The coffee grown here carries that same sense of permanence.

In the cup, the profile is balanced and composed, built around sweetness, and clarity. Deep brown sugar sweetness leads, followed by fruit-cake richness and baker’s chocolate. The body is silky and rounded, while a juicy citrus acidity keeps everything bright and alive. It is a coffee that feels complete, offering comfort and clarity in equal measure.

Baroida Estate sits high in the Kaiantu District of Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands, surrounded by rugged mountains, cool nights and misty mornings. It was founded in the 1960s by Kiwi Ben Colbran, one of the early pioneers who helped establish coffee production in PNG during a period of agricultural expansion. More than half a century later, the estate remains in the care of son Nichol and the Colbran family, guided by a long-held commitment to quality and place.

That focus shows at every step of processing. Ripe cherry is carefully sorted, then pulped using disc pulpers before undergoing dry fermentation in vats for approximately 36 hours. Fresh water is then pumped through the vats in a gentle circular motion, naturally agitating the coffee and removing any remaining mucilage. The parchment is sun-dried on tarps and turned regularly to ensure even drying and long-term stability.

The result is a coffee that reflects its environment and the people behind it. Thoughtful, balanced and quietly expressive, Baroida is a classic highland specialty PNG lot that rewards slow brewing and attention, much like the land it comes from.

Roasted medium to suit espresso, stovetop or a full-bodied french press.
